St. Patrick's Makunga Secondary School, a mixed-day school in the Kwanza Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, has achieved outstanding academic success as over 120 students secured places at university. Despite facing challenges with resources and student behavior, the school continues to surpass expectations.
The school's success was attributed by Principal Moses Wabwire to strict curriculum adherence, discipline, and collaboration among parents, teachers, and the local Catholic Church.
"Education is not only about availability of resources, but also about creating an environment that facilitates learning. With integrity and discipline, our students continue to achieve outstanding results," said Wabwire.
"A school in the rural area of Busere, Malawi cut through superstition and fear, gatting over 100 girls to sign up for it's basic teacher training for women program. 'The dream of Eshikulu Girls is to, first send girls to school and give boys the opportunity to stay there as well,' said the chairperson of the schools parent-teacher association.
Eshikulu Girls Secondary School, located in Likuyani Constituency, achieved its first ever A-grade since its establishment in 2014.
More than 50 new students will now be joining the universities, representing a major achievement for the institution.
Deputy Chief Violet Ang'ang'o expressed pride in the achievement, saying
The recognition we've achieved is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of both our students and faculty. It signals the dawn of a new chapter in our institution's history.
Top-performing student Diana Cherotich credited her achievement of an A- with 79 points to the support provided by her teachers and peers.
She worked diligently, maintained a spirit of curiosity, and connected with like-minded individuals who continued to inspire her.
This refers to the achievement of reaching the final stage of a system or process, especially one marked by challenges.
In the Sub-county Secondary School in Kitale, which caters to students from slums such as Mitume and Shanti, a remarkable achievement has been recorded, with an average score of 7.0. More than 20 students from the school are expected to proceed to university, a testament to their determination.
Deputy Chief Rodah Sitati emphasized the strength that determination brings, saying:
“Despite their background, a child's potential is not determined by it alone.”
Standing out among the top performers was Joice Lukale, who achieved a grade of B- and has ambitions to become a medical doctor.
“Some days I had to survive on very little food, yet my determination to achieve my goal endured.”
Another student, Francis Karenga, also achieved a B- and hopes to pursue a career in Artificial Intelligence technology.
Loreto High Matunda: A Decade of Resilience
Loreto High School Matunda in Soy sub-county, Uasin Gishu county, regained its academic prominence after a decade, posting a mean score of 7.8 in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
Ranking second in the county after Moi Girls High School Eldoret, 252 out of 283 candidates (89 percent) secured university placements.
The school's principal, Dr. Phylis Chepkok, attributed their success to discipline, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.
"We are proud of our students' accomplishments. Those who scored below a C+ should look into options at technical and vocational training schools. We shouldn't just fantasize about it, we should take action on it," she urged.
Matunda Secondary School in Tanzania had a record year.
Matunda Secondary School in Likuyani Constituency marked a historic achievement by surpassing its previous best performance, with its top student scoring a near-perfect mark of 81 points.
A total of 195 students from the co-educational school are now advancing to public universities.
Achievement highlighted by Deputy Principal Mary Sifuna.
"Earning an A at a co-educational day school is a truly outstanding accomplishment. It demonstrates that with persistence, anything is achievable," she observed.

A Kisii family mourns the loss of their daughter, who posthumously receives a grade of B.
A family in Kisii is dealing with conflicting emotions following the release of the 2024 KCSE exam results, which has exacerbated their sorrow over the loss of their daughter, Mitchelle Kemunto.
Kemunto, who tragically passed away from complication of epilepsy just two days after sitting for her national exams, had always aspired to become a medical doctor.
Her mother, Vane Moraa, disclosed that Kemunto achieved a notable B- grade, a feat that, although commendable, has brought renewed regret to the bereaved family.
