The National Union of Education Workers (UNMT), affiliated with the National Labor Union of Morocco, has commended Moroccan educators and the broader educational community for their mass participation in a nationwide solidarity strike in support of Palestine.
In a press statement received by DJOGDJA NEWS, the union described the protest as a conscious and powerful demonstration of the deep-rooted support for the Palestinian cause among Moroccans of all backgrounds. The strike was held in coordination with a global call for action to denounce the ongoing violence and displacement faced by Palestinians at the hands of what the union termed “the criminal Zionist gang.”
The union emphasized that the strike witnessed widespread participation across regional education offices and academies, positioning it as a minimal humanitarian gesture in solidarity with Palestinians, despite attempts by what the union referred to as “pro-Zionist voices” to undermine the initiative.
Reaffirming its longstanding commitment to the Palestinian cause, the union stated that the protest aligns with its core principles and resistance against what it calls the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation, with the complicity of international actors.
The UNMT also reiterated its outright rejection of all forms of normalization with Israel, both official and informal. It specifically warned against what it termed “educational normalization” within the school system and renewed its demand for the Moroccan government to reverse its normalization deal with Israel and shut down the liaison office in Rabat.
The strike adds to a series of actions by Moroccan civil society and labor groups who have increasingly voiced opposition to the normalization agreements signed since 2020 under the Abraham Accords, especially in light of escalating violence in Gaza.
