Drama, Action As National Sports Festival Enters Full Swing

The 22nd National Sports Festival took a dramatic turn in the para powerlifting event when Team Kwara’s Shakirat Mohammed collapsed while preparing for her competition.

The quick intervention of the on-site medical team was crucial, as she was immediately attended to and stabilized.

According to the attending doctor, the athlete had suffered a spike in blood pressure. Thankfully, her condition has since improved and she is recovering well.

The incident occurred shortly after the festival was officially declared open by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Also present at the ceremony were Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who all expressed optimism about the festival’s potential to showcase Nigeria’s sporting talent.

Meanwhile, Team Kwara kicked off their campaign in earnest, but it was a tough start in football as they fell 2–1 to Team Kano on Monday.

The team will be looking to bounce back when they face Team Lagos at 10 a.m. today at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Elsewhere in football action, Team FCT outclassed Team Borno with a 4–1 victory, while Team Lagos was awarded a 3–0 walkover win after Team Ondo failed to show up for their match.

The festival continues with events across several sports including volleyball, cycling, cricket, and badminton.

Team Kwara remains determined to make its mark as competitions heat up across venues.
