I wish to highlight the growing concern of unemployment in Pakistan, which is increasingly becoming a source of distress and hopelessness among the youth. Every year, thousands of graduates enter the job market with dreams of success, only to encounter disappointment due to limited job openings and a mismatch between academic qualifications and market needs.
The rising unemployment rate is not just an economic problem but a social one as well. It leads to frustration, brain drain, and in some cases, an increase in crime and drug abuse. Despite having a talented and youthful population, Pakistan has struggled to create adequate employment due to sluggish economic growth, limited industrialisation, and poor investment in emerging sectors.
The government must prioritise entrepreneurship, support small and medium-sized enterprises, improve vocational training, and attract both domestic and foreign investment. Without meaningful action, we risk squandering the potential of an entire generation.
