Renewed Hope Initiative: Yobe First Lady Launches Training For 200 Women On Agric, Others

As part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the wife of the President, Senator Remi Tinubu, the Yobe State First Lady Hajiya Hafsat Kollere Buni has flagged off the training of 200 Two hundred women receive under the Women in Agriculture Support Programme (WASP) and supported with a start-up kits.

Speaking virtually at the event held at Bricks Point in the state capital, Hajiya Kollere Buni praised Senator Tinubu for championing self-reliance among women and strengthening food security across Yobe.

She said, “We thank the First Lady for her foresight in empowering our women to be self-sufficient and to safeguard our food supply,” the Yobe First Lady said.

In a goodwill message, Hon. Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, urged the beneficiaries to use their new skills and resources to grow their agro-businesses through the entire value chain.

She noted that the timing is crucial, as many women turn to farming to rebuild their livelihoods in the aftermath of insurgency.

Also, the Commissioner Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon Ali Mustapha Goniri, represented by the RHI Agriculture Focal Person Abubakar Haruna Ibrahim said that WASP aligns with national and state agricultural policies to cut reliance on imported food.

“By strategically investing in productivity, this programme drives towards self-sufficiency in food production,” he affirmed.

The Acting State Coordinator, RHI who is also the Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Mairo Amshi MFR, Acting State Coordinator of RHI represented by Dr. Musa Abba Kollere, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock Development, highlighted that WASP is the first in a series of RHI projects.

She said the upcoming initiatives include Youth in Agriculture, “Every Home a Garden,” and the Young Farmers Club, all featuring climate-smart practices to combat micronutrient deficiencies and promote food fortification.

She used the forum and thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni and Hajiya Hafsat Kollere Buni for their steadfast support of agriculture, praying that their commitment would yield enduring benefits for Yobe’s farming communities.

A total of 60 women received rice seedlings and two litres of liquid fertiliser each while 60 other women received cowpea seedlings and two litres of liquid fertiliser each.

Other supports includes livestock with 40 women receiving two goats and two-week-old chicks with feed while all of the 200 participants benefited with₦50,000 to sustain their farming inputs.
